NH3CRAFT project demonstration concluded today at EKME premises in Thessaloniki.
EKME is proud to be a member of the consortium to undertake the research project, comprised of 12 beneficiaries from 6 different Member States including IACS Classification Societies, major Engineering Designers and Consultancies, leading Technical Universities, Industrial Partners and SMEʼs, and one of the largest Ship Management Companies globally.
NH3CRAFT project will develop a next generation sustainable, commercially attractive and safe technology for high-volume storage and transportation of ammonia as fuel on-board ships.
EKME has contributed to;
- "Concept design" of the Demonstrator by providing information related with the steel tanks fabrication.
- "Basic & Detailed Engineering Design Process for the Demonstrator hull integrated Tank Storage Systems" by performing the detailed design of the steel tanks for the Demonstrator in compliance with relevant codes. The team also managed welding engineering for the steel tanks, issuing welding procedures and the corresponding qualification records. Additionally, EKME prepared the Inspection and Test Plan for the steel tanks.
-"Design of tank storage systems for the desktop studies". EKME performed the detailed design of the steel tanks for the desktop studies in accordance with applicable codes.
"Modularity & Scalability Concept Development" by performing the detailed design of steel tanks used in various scenarios within this task, in accordance with applicable codes.
- "Assembly, Installation and Functionality Testing of System" – EKME has contributed to the following tasks:
Tank Manufacturing, Auxiliaries Provision & Retrofit Works.
EKME handled material procurement, fabrication, and inspection of the steel tanks in accordance with the design developed.
Nearly all EKME’s facilities in Thessaloniki were utilized for the completion of the tanks.
"Demonstration and testing".
EKME provided its premises in Thessaloniki for the demonstration and testing of the Ammonia Tankage System. The company prepared the demonstration area, allocated working spaces for other partners, contributed to the assembly of the tankage system, participated in the demonstration and testing processes, and oversaw the disassembly of the unit.
- "Safety & Risk Assessment"
EKME participated in the quantitative and qualitative risk assessment performed by TWI and UoS in the form of workshop (HAZID/HAZOP).
-"Assessment of Operational and Modularity Characteristics"
EKME contributed to "Modular and Scalability Characteristics" by performing the design of the steel tanks in accordance with relevant codes, which were examined as case studies in this task.
-" Dissemination, Exploitation and communication"
EKME has contributed in in the dissemination and communication material providing posts and informative material through the communication platforms.
